Census figures inform us that more
than 6,000 legal Hispanics live in this part of Southern
Illinois. The actual Hispanic population could actually be twice
that when considering all of those that are undocumented. The
Southern Illinois Hispanic Outreach Project was designed to
minister to this population.
S.I.H.O.P. is a partnership of Kaskaskia Association, Salem
South Association, Nine Mile Association and the Illinois
Baptist State Association. This partnership was created to
minister to Hispanic people living in Southern Illinois and to
start new Spanish speaking churches.
The goal of S.I.H.O.P. is to locate pockets of Hispanic
population in these three associations, lead them to Christ, and
develop leadership ministries.
Rev. Robert (Bob) Evaul, along with his wife Carol, is
the national missionary that is heading up S.I.H.O.P. His
principal function as S.I.H.O.P. missionary is to work equally
with each of the three associations to evangelize Hispanics
through home Bible studies, Vacation Bible Schools, Language
studies and other outreach activities, and to sensitize English
speaking churches in these three associations to the Hispanic
ministry, developing ways in which they can become involved in
outreach to the Hispanics. Bob and his wife are ministering in
14 counties of Southern Illinois, which include: Effingham,
Clinton, Marion, Fayette, Bond, Clay, Jefferson, Wayne,
Randolph, Perry, Jackson, Washington, Williamson and Franklin.
Please join Bob at 8:30am for Worship Service.
